The main food in Thailand is rice. Everyone has eaten it since they were born. But we really cannot eat rice alone so we have to have something to go with it. There are many dishes of food to go with rice. Most of the food in Thailand are hot and spicy ... that is what the Thais are famous for.... One must remember when ordering your meal always specify whether you would like your food SPICY or not...
Every evening we would walk to the Night market to have our dinner.... there were lots of foreigners and locals enjoying the night breeze and good food like us... A dinner for 2 persons would cost you 220 Baht a person... that includes 2 dishes, 1 vegetable dish, 2 bottles of mineral water, 2 sodas and 2 cups of rice. Not bad eh??
at the end of the market there was a local band who were playing songs of the 50's and 60's..... we were having dinner while this band was " trying to sing " .... " JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and DON'T BE CRUEL....
Here are some of the dishes I tried and also their prices. These prices are what we paid at the NIGHT MARKET.

grilled Squid ...... 80 Baht
Oyster cake...... 120 baht

They also have fresh seafoods where you can ask them to weigh it and have it cooked the way you would like it to be served,,,,
After dinner we would go and have Italian style ice cream ( 45 Baht a single scoop cup ) . They have 2 brands of Italian Style ice cream... one is SESTO and the other one is GUSTO... I tried their Pistachio ( which was very good).... and caramel ice cream... The brand you should look for when you are in Chiang Mai is GUSTO..... it is low fat! Their ice cream was so good that I had a scoop every night before going to bed.....
As we were leaving the night market around midnight.... we chanced upon some buddhist monks carrying what looked like a metal pot .......walking around the area... and there were some thai people approaching them and they seem to be giving them food ( crackers, noodles, or some cash ). After they give these things to the monks they would all kneel in front of these monks and the monks would start to chant some words. I tried to ask some locals what were they doing but no one could explain to me why they were doing that.... Is that some sort of tradition???
I also noticed that once their metal pots were filled with " gifts " ... another man would approach these monks with a extra large black bag ( it looked like those we use for our garbage ).... and all the monks would put it in that bag...
It will be a big day once more tomorrow... we are headed off to see other interesting sites... so... goodnight all and ...
SAWATDEE KAA!!!
They gave alms to the monks, which is strange as this tradition always do in the early morning. However there is a day of every year that Northern Thai people would give alms in the night as our folklore said there will be an enlighten monk called "Pra Upakut" who would disguised himself as a Buddhist novice and asking for alms on that day. I'm not sure if the day you saw them is that day.
