A multi-talented advertising and contemporary/abstract artist, Ernie Kamatoy draws on more than thirty years as an Executive Art Director and Creative Director in advertising to develop works of striking color, compelling originality and vibrant energy.

Renowned for his conceptual thinking, he is a master at turning abstract ideas into stylized realities with personality and flair. Ernie begins with a figure or landscape, then simplifies, contemporizes, reinvents or exaggerates it to create a new form and fresh perspective. Ultimately, the colors, shapes, lines, and interplay of space become more important than the subject matter itself. Kamatoy then translates his vision into mixed media – paper, plastic, canvas, wood or corrugated board – to achieve the ideal effect.

Here are his works:

OLIVE AND ALL THAT JAZZ  ( acrylic ) 33.5 x 45.5

BIRD OF PARADISE  ( acrylic ) 36 x 36

BREAKTHROUGH ( mixed media ) 40 x 40

CELLO VIBRATIONS ( acrylic ) 62 x 34

A Fine Arts graduate of the University of the Philippines, Ernie originally exhibited his work at a solo show in the Midwest where he lived for many years. Throughout his advertising career, he produced designs for a wide range of companies, including Federal Express, Procter & Gamble, Quaker Oats, Revlon, RJ Reynolds, Beefeater London Dry Gin and Remy Martin Cognac.

Ernie’s colleagues and clients extol his command of design, ingenuity in using digital and mixed media, and uncanny ability to see clearly and communicate effectively with grace, humor and style. When he is not running his own creative services business, he paints, photographs, and designs and merchandizes custom jewelry under the Ernie G brand.
