Diary of an adventure to Eastern Europe.. Part 12 Helsinki, Finland

Finally I saw the cruise ship SILJA Serenade...... WOW!! It was a lot bigger than the other liner we took in Copenhagen... I immediately went to the top deck to check out the ship.....

The ship had 18 floors.... and my room was located on the 12th floor. I went down to the main lobby or promenade.. and it looked like I was inside a mall...

there were lots of shops, a sauna and swimming pool ( on the roof deck), lots of restaurants , a small casino and a disco!!!.... My friends decided we go to the disco instead of using the sauna /steam bath facilities of the boat.... BOY oh BOY!!! What a LIFE!!!!

I waited for the sunset..... it came at 8:20 pm and this is what I saw.... It was like a painting !!!! the weather cooperated with me this time! But I could not stay out to watch the sun go down since the air was getting chilly and the temperature has dropped once more..

Good morning all!!!! We are about to disembark our cruise ship SILJA SERENADE for a tour in Helsinki, Finland... I went back to the deck to look if I could take a picture of the sunrise .... It was cloudy, overcast and drizzling.... but i saw this little island ..as we were entering Helsinki....

.
As we embarked the ship, our tour guide told us we are going to have a city tour of Helsinki.... our first stop was the Olympic Stadium.

This stadium is best known for being the center of activities in the 1952 Summer Olympics. It was built to host the 1983 and 2005 World Athletic Championship competitions. Now this stadium is the home stadium of the Finland national football team.

The statue was built in honor of the first Olympic runner of Helsinki.

We went on a city tour....

The Parliament ...

The National Museum ... it had an exhibit of Pablo Piccasso .

We proceeded to one of the famous tourist attractions in Helsinki... The Sibelius Monument...

One of Finland's famous people is Jean Sibelius. He died in 1957 at the age of 91. Soon after that, it was decided that the composer deserved to be commemorated with a monument, and a competition was organized to invited artists to submit their designs. This design was won by Ella Hiltunen.

The well-loved composer Jean Sibelius.

Since it was Sunday when we arrived in Helsinki... most of us asked our tour guide if there was a church were we could go to ... and luckily enough we were able to find one...

We had a free afternoon... most of the group either went shopping for souvenirs, I decided to explore the area where we were staying.....

The Luonto Kutsuu Museum right infront of our hotel.

I ended up in the Railway station.... I decided to check out their grocery below... and ended buying  these instead....

The price you can see here are in EUROS... so you can imagine how much that is in dollars!
